Kebbi State Bubbles As U-17 Volleyball, Beach Volleyball Gets Underway
Over 100 players have converged in Kebbi state for the U-17 indoor volleyball (female) and Beach Volleyball (male and female) set to commence tomorrow
The North West volleyball championship is slated for 19th to 22nd December, 2019 at Haliru Abdul stadium, Birin Kebbi, Kebbi state.
In his opening remarks, the President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Engineer Musa Nimrod said the competition is to discover young girls with potential in volleyball.
Nimrod said the second edition is a replica of the first edition hosted few months ago in Taraba state where young and promising U15 volleyball players with good heights were discovered.
He said coaches present will be equipped with basic knowledge for teaching fundamentals of the game.
Nimrod said, “The competition is more of the grassroots and to fetch raw talent for future prospect and growth in the game. The train of development will go round the country and this has been done in two fronts.
“This is the second of such tournament sponsored, the first being in Jalingo Taraba state, where raw talents were discovered and soon to be drafted into national junior camps”.
He added that, “This is the first time in the history of the country that an all girls competition is played with the vision to go round the 6 geopolitical zones. The states presents include Kebbi, Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto and Kaduna with girls within the age range of 17 below”.
The interstate competition is hosted by the zonal office of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Northwest representative who doubles as the President Nigeria volleyball federation, Musa Nimrod.
