Lesotho V Nigeria: Super Eagles Probable Starting Eleven In AFCON Qualifier
By Our Correspondent
In few hours, precisely by 5pm Nigeria time, Super Eagles of Nigeria will square up against Lesotho in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Maseru after a positive start to their AFCON 2021 campaign on Wednesday in Uyo, Nigeria.
Here is a look at the likely line-up ahead of the official release by Coach Gernot Rohr.
In a 4-2-3-1 set-up, Nigeria will hope to grow from strength to strength especially the fire power upfront.
Daniel Akpeyi – Brought to the team to come and do a work in the absence of Francis Uzoho due to injury and he is one player who is familiar with Lesotho culture due to his playing based which is South Africa.
Ola Aina – Was preferred ahead of Chidozie Awaziem and Abdullahi Shehu in the victory over Benin Republic and he was involved in an attacking play that earned the Eagles a penalty kick.
Semi Ajayi – Was dropped from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations squad but the West Brom defensive assurance has raised his game to great level and will remain relevant in the national set-up years to come.
William Troost-Ekong – One of Gernot Rohr’s most trusted armies. Ekong will lead the Super Eagles out of the tunnel with Ahmed Musa expected to start from the bench again.
Jamilu Collins – Can he do any wrong in the eyes of the Coaching crew ? Won the spot over a year ago and doesn’t look like relinquishing it anytime soon even with his poor defensive contribution to the goal conceded against Benin Republi
Wilfred Ndidi – Will always start as long as he is fit as the Coach will appreciate a replica of his Leicester City form.
Joe Aribo – Definitely a sure banker, Aribo has been tipped as the Super Eagles danger man
Alex Iwobi – Symbol of criticism in recent times but the gaffer found him as the valuable link between the midfield and attack.
Samuel Kalu – One of the most dangerous dribbler in world football will hope to customize a permanent bench for skipper Ahmed Musa especially after scoring the winner against Benin Republic.
Samuel Chukwueze – Tipped for greater things, Samu will have another freedom to run at Lesotho at will to the productivity of Super Eagles
Victor Osimhen – Got off the mark with the spot kick he converted in the 2-1 win over Benin Republic in Uyo few days ago and will hope to shake the net again
