LMC Hammer: Kwara Utd. Fined One Million, To Play Sunshine Without Fans, Rivers United Warned
The League Management Company, LMC in its resolve to ensure sanity and enthrone sportsmanship behaviour in the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL have handed Kwara United FC a million naira fine and ordered the Ilorin based club to play their next home match without fans, bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.
The league organisers in its ruling on the fracas and confusion that characterized Kwara United home match against visiting Rivers United on Sunday, the latter were also issued stern warning to show proper conduct in the league.
In the decision made public on Wednesday, Kwara United were charged for breaching the NPFL Framework and Rules as some supporters of the club encroached onto the technical area/field of play, causing disorder and bringing the league to disrepute in the course of the match.
“Kwara United have been fined N1 million for encroaching onto the field of play and will play their next home match vs 3SC behind closed doors (without fans).
“Failure by Kwara United to uphold the tenets of fair play might lead to stiffer sanctions as prescribed under the league framework and rules,” the LMC said.
Kwara United have 7 working days to pay all fines and elect to appeal the sanctions.
On their part, Rivers United were issued a censure and advised to show sportsmanship spirit, fair play and respect for opponents and desist from actions capable of bringing the league to disrepute.
“This is following observation of serious unsporting behaviour from Rivers Unites players and officials in some of their away matches this season.
“It has also been observed that Rivers Utd have repeatedly breached a league circular cautioning all clubs against reckless public statements.
“Further evidence of such actions by the Port Harcourt club will lead to a ban from all match venues of their supporters or club officials that persistently cause disorder either at home or away,” LMC further noted.
