Lobi Stars Sign 23 Players Ahead Of New NPFL Season
By Amaechi Agbo
As the date for the commencement of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL season continues to be cloudy, Lobi Stars of Makurdi have recruited 23 new players ahead of new football calendar.
The recruitment is not unconnected with the departure of sereval players from the club as well as the need to strengthen the team that narrowly beat the drop in the previous season. Lobi Stars waited till the last day of the last season to confirm their league status as they ended the table 15 with 49 points, just a point above the drop zone.
Some of the players signed by the club include former Rangers star, Christian Madu, Marthias Samuel formerly with Plateau United; Bernard Ovoke of Rivers United, among others
While the club raided several NPFL rivals to beef up their rank, their bulk of new signings came from JM Liberty with four players.
A source who spoke to our Correspondent noted that the signing of the more than two dozens players was as a result of “mass exodus” of players who decided to leave the club due management issues.
Lobi Stars were in the news a couple of weeks ago after the coaching crew and players embarked on peace protest to the Benue State House of Assembly and the Governor’s House to press home their demands for payment of several months of salary arrears.
The new players have since reported to camp as the club begin preparations for the new season.
