More Headache For Eguavoen As Paul Onuachu Is Ruled Out Of 2021 AFCON

Paul Onuachu is set to miss the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON Tournament in Cameroon after the gangling striker got injured while on duty for his club, Genk over the weekend.

His injury posses another headache for Super Eagles caretaker coach, Augustine Eguavoen who is sweating on the availability or otherwise of Napoli of Italy hitman, Victor Osimhen ahead of the biennial tournament which starts on January 9, 2022.

Onuachu got injured on Sunday during the Jupiler Pro League match between KRC Genk and Royal Antwerp FC.

Genk coach, Bernd Storck, confirmed that the former FC Midtjylland striker will be sidelined for up to 3 or 4 weeks.

Eagles Tracker reports that Onuachu put his side ahead with his 12th goal of the season before pulling up in the 71st minute while chasing a ball in KRC Genk’s 1-1 draw against Royal Antwerp FC.

“It’s a muscle tear”, the German sighed. I already had the impression that he was tired. When I asked how it went, he told me he could continue playing. I expect we will miss him for the next three to four weeks,” said KRC Genk head coach, Bernd Storck.

However, the three-time AFCON champions have other options such Emmanuel Dennis, Taiwo Awoniyi and Cyriel Dessers to lead the Eagles attack in Cameroon.
