NFF And Imaginary Force Majeure Clause In Anambra State FA Election
By Ugochukwu Ifeanyi
An Igbo adage says “asi na-aka mma n’oyibo” which translates to “lies are better told in English (foreign) language” this is because lies are easier sold or told using big grammar which the people either won’t know or would take a long time to decipher as they have to go and consult their dictionaries, but usually after the damage has been done
So is this case with the Nigeria Football Federation, as they tried to justify their humorous actions as regards the just concluded Anambra State Football Association elections, which brought back Sen Dr Ifeanyi Ubah as the Chairman
It is now clear that their target is to frustrate, remove and relegate Sen Ifeanyi Ubah from the football circle not just in Nigeria but Africa out of low esteem, inferiority complex and envy at the capacity and capabilities of the Nnewi billionaire
The NFF said they acted in total disregard of its own statutes because of a case of “Force Majeure” .. So what exactly is this funny looking word and of what relevance is it that can possibly justify the suicidal actions of the NFF so far?
Well, Force majeure is a common clause in contracts that essentially frees both parties from liability or obligation when an extraordinary event or circumstance beyond the control of the parties, such as a war, strike, riot, crime, epidemic or an event described by the legal term act of God, prevents one or both parties from fulfilling their obligations under the contract. In practice, most force majeure clauses do not excuse a party’s non-performance entirely, but only suspend it for the duration of the force majeure.[1]
From the above submission, it appears the NFF are attempting to hide under the Covid-19 epidemic to make the absurd declarations, which makes it even funnier though some will tag it as outright stupidity
The elections into the Anambra State Football Association took place not just once but twice ie physical and virtual, both duly authorised by the Anambra State Football Congress and overseen by the Electoral Committee of the Anambra State Football Association
In both cases, Sen Dr Ifeanyi Ubah emerged the unanimous winner to become the Chairman of Anambra State Football Association
So it is clear that the NFF appears to be in bed with some external non football related forces, specifically targeting Sen Dr Ifeanyi Ubah purely for partisan politics, that has absolutely nothing to do with Anambra State and Nigeria Football
For clearance of all doubts, the Anambra State Football Congress and Association were never at any time incapacitated or rendered unable to carry out their duties as mandated by the statutes
This means that the claim of a Force Majeure by the NFF is just a figment of their imagination and has no real evidence or backing in reality as the Congress met not less than 5 times during the cause of the election period within which both elections took place as advertised
That being said, anyone who is parading his or herself under the illegal and non existing caretaker committee banner, is just auditioning for this year’s edition of Papa Ajasco sitcom comedy and should not be taken seriously at all
