NFF Must Work Hard To Change Football Mentality In Nigeria – Shehu Sani

Former Senator, at the National Assembly, Senator Shehu Sani stated this on Saturday.

Senator Sani who who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District the Senate on the platform of the All Progressive Congress from 2015 to 2019, spoke on the backdrop of lack of awareness and attention to the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL second stanza which resumes this weekend with a match between Jigawa Golden Stars and Lobi Stars Saturday said that while the match is billed to be played in Kaduna State, nobody is talking about it.

The former Senate Committee Chairman on Local and Foreign Debts noted that all over the state, what everybody is talking about is the English Premiership League match involving Chelsea and Manchester City.

“Today, Jigawa Golden Stars will play Lobi Stars in Kaduna, but people are only talking about Man City Vs Chelsea.

“Nigerian Football Federation must work hard to change this mentality,” Senator Sani Said on his Tweeter handle on Saturday.

NFF 1st Vice President, Seyi Akinwunmi; NFF President, Amaju Pinnick and the 2nd Vice President, Alhaji Shehu Dikko during a meeting recently.

In September 2020, the senator also criticised the change in football mentality of Nigerians noting that in the past, Nigerians used to love local football and foreign music but the situation, he noted, had changed recently in reverse.

“In the past, Nigerians love local football league and love foreign music and movies; In the present, Nigerians love foreign football league and love local music and movies. Why the switch?” He had queried.

Nigeria football league have been accused of lacking quality with Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr constantly complaining that he had not seen a good player in the domestic league to be invited to the senior national team.

League Management Company, LMC charged with the responsibility to organise, control and develope the league, has been lackluster in its activities.

Prior to the commencement of the 2020/2021 NPFL season, the LMC announced that the league would been shown on television as well as NPFL.TV.

The telecast did not go as planned and some matches were not shown. However, with the second stanza of the league underway, it is hoped that matches would be watched on local Televisions as we as NPFL.TV
