The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF has said it would rescue three other leagues in the country – Nigeria National League, NNL; Nigeria Women Premier League, NWPL and the Nigeria Nationwide League One, NLO, Bestchoicesports.com.ng reports

NFF President, Amaju Pinnick who stated this Monday said the federation will support the leagues to continue the season once it get green light from the federal government on the resumption of football activities in the country.

He however noted that resumption of the leagues after the green light will depend on the reports submitted to the federation by the Football Committee.

“Unfortunately, we lost the Chairman of the NNL, Hon. Chidi Okenwa. May his soul rest in peace. What I can assure is that once we get the green light from the Federal Government to get going with football, we will ensure that the NNL and the other leagues also get going alongside the NPFL. The Football Committee will present its report by next week, and we are also looking to boost the leagues with solidarity funds from FIFA and from sponsorship funds,” he said.

On the issue of suspended former Olympic Team coach, Salisu Yusuf who was handed a one year ban for accepting $1000 bribe during the 2018 African Nations Championship in Morocco, the NFF supremo noted that the Rangers FC of Enugu coach has served his punishment.

He noted that the federation will study the situation adding that the essence of the punishment was not to “deform but to reform” him.

“Coach Salisu Yusuf has finished serving his sanction and that was why we sent him on secondment to Rangers International FC to help the club in its CAF Confederation Cup campaign. Of course, it is not an individual decision as the Board has to still look at it, and we also need to cross-fertilize with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and do some other consultations. But the truth is, he has served his punishment and I always said from Day One that punishment is meant to reform and not to deform,” he concluded.
