Ahead of Super Eagles of Nigeria Tuesday Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON encounter with the Pharaohs of Egypt, Coach Augustine Eguavoen has disclosed that, like every other coach, he is under pressure to deliver, www.bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.

The 33rd edition of the continental showpiece got underway in Cameroon with host nation, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon claiming a 2-1 victory against Burkina Faso in the opening match on Sunday, January 9.

In statement ahead of Nigeria’s Group D match with Egypt in Garoua on Tuesday, Coach Eguavoen who was appointed on interim basis on December 12, 2021, said that being under pressure in a tournament is not perculiar to him alone.

The former Super Eagles player who had handled the team over a decade ago conceded that if world established coaches such as Pep Guardiola of Manchester City, Antonio Conte of Tottenham, Thomas Tuchel of Chelsea all face pressure in their respective managerial duties, his would not be an exception.

“Pressure yes, I am obviously. It’s just not me, even with Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte, Pep Guardiola or Gernot Rohr you can’t say you won’t be under pressure,” Eguavoen said on his Facebook timeline.

“It’s like Manchester City, one of the best teams in the World at the moment, playing the best brand of football at the moment but with Guardiola, one coach that I adore, he has been unable to win the UEFA Champions League with City. You cannot say he is not under pressure to win it,” he said

The former Enyimba, Sunshine Stars, Gombe United manager however expressed optimism that the team will prove a point in Cameroon.

“People expect Nigeria to win the AFCON and that puts me under some pressure but I will take it and digest it.

“We take each game as it comes. All the teams here have come to prove a point.”

The Nigeria vs Egypt match will start by 5pm on Tuesday.
