Npfl Wk 15: Nasarawa United Hold Sunshine Stars To Unfertile Stalemate
By Eche Amos
Nasarawa United FC’s recent impressive form continued as they held their hosts, Sunshine Stars, to a goalless draw at the Akure Township Stadium, Ondo State.
The matchday 15 clash was discontinued after the first- half on Sunday afternoon as match officials cited threats to their lives by hoodlums who brandished dangerous weapons against them while heading toward the tunnel during the break.
After so much deliberations and persuasions, the officials accepted to have the remaining 45 minutes played on Monday morning at same venue.
Centre referee, Joseph Ogabor, from Cross-River State, assisted by the duo of Usman Isah from Katsina
and Francis Friday from Bauchi States respectively, coordinated proceedings.
United began the half with pacy winger, Chidi Solomon getting his shot on goal parried into corner kick by goalkeeper Uche Okafor.
Two minutes later, Ikenna Offor’s left-footed shot off Emeka Onyema’s freekick could not get to its expected direction.
At the latter stages of the game, the host struck from distance through Kehinde Adeyemi, but his shot went inches above the bar.
Not done yet, the Owena Whales came threatening, but for the goal-mouth clearance by left fullback, Ebuka Anaekwe.
United turned defence to attack as Ikenna Offor manoeuvred his way through the Sunshine defence, only for his cheeky low strike to breeze past the woodwork.
Both sides injected new blood in the game largely controlled by United, but nil-nil it ended as the Solid Miners recorded their second away draw of the campaign, and move to 4th position with 24 points.
Dakkada FC of Uyo are the next opponents of the Solid Miners on Thursday, 18th March, 2021, at the Lafia City Stadium.
