Opi Youth Movement, OYM, an umbrella of youths both male and female in Opi, a popular town in Enugu State, is organising a grand reception in honour of their illustrious son and chairman, Nsukka Local Government Area, Honourable Barrister Cosmas Ugwueze

Cosmas Ugwueze who was the vice chairman of the council after the February 29, 2020 local council polls in the state became the aubstantive chairman on June 29, 2020 after the passing unto glory of his former boss, Hon Patrick Omeje, aka Okadigbo who died on June 16, 2020

On assuming office, Hon. Barr. Ugwueze has etched his name among the few notable Opi noble men and women to occupy the first citizen of the local council.

With barely a year to his office, the youth in his home town of Opi, the gateway to Nsukka land, are organising a grand reception in his honour to welcome him home and commend him for the honour he has bestowed on the town.

Popularly called the “Mayor”, Honorable Barrister Cosmas Ugwueze who hail from Ibeku Community in the town is expected to be accompanied to the reception by the councilors in the council, state political office holders as well as well-wishers.

Speaking in an interview with our correspondent in Enugu, the Secretary to the Nsukka Local Government, Honourable Nnamdi Onyeke, said the reception is not only befitting but would spur his boss to do more work for the people

Honourable Nnamdi Who described the chairman as a “gentleman with humble beginning, kind and humane,” added that Hon. Ugwueze is one of the best hands Opi have produced in recent times to change the face of leadership in the local council.

“I have known the Nsukka chairman, Honourable Barrister Cosmas Ugwueze for a very long time.

“He is a gentleman with humble beginning. He is kind and humane. He is not only a loyal fellow but a unique man in practicalising good, all-inclusive governance.

“In less than a year since he became the chairman after the demise of his former boss, Honourable Patrick Omeje (may his soul rest in peace) who he served with unblemish record, he has been able to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Nsukka.

“He showed his leadership pragmatism during the Covid-19 lockdown where he visited communities and wards in the council and distributed palliatives to the people especially the poor and elderly.

“He is giving a facelift to infrastructure development in the council and have built or renovated and equipped healthcare centres in localities.

“I say it without mincing word that Hon. Barr Cosmas Ugwueze, the Honourable chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area is one of the best brains we have in Opi when it comes to leadership prowess.

“It is therefore not surprising that the Opi Youth Movement, OYM are organising a reception for him. The honour is not only befitting and justified, but will act as a catalyst in ensuring that he continues to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Nsukka,” he said.

The grand reception which is slated to hold on Sunday, June 20, 2021 at St Charles Catholic Church, Opi will have the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Right Honourable Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as the special guest of honour.

The event is expected to get underway by 10am.
