By Amaechi Agbo
The alleged plan and payment of N30 million to assassins to kill the three persons who have been calling for probe of endemic corruption in the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has been reported to the Nigeria Police Force, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report authoritatively.
Our paper gathered that the trio of Tunde Aderibigbe, Emmanuel Babayaro and James Peters who have taking the issue of corruption allegation against top NFF officials to a popular Abuja radio station, Human Rights Radio have contacted Nigeria Police for safety from unknown attacks.
It could be recalled that the presenter of Berekete Family, and general manager of the station, Isa Ahmed had last week alleged that N10 million has been placed on each of the three person to murder them over their consistent exposure of alleged corruption pepetrated in the NFF.
Mr Isa who made the revelation but refused to disclose the identity of the sponsors of such evil advised the three persons to be cautious of their movements.
In a swift move, the three persons, Tunde Aderibigbe, former Protocol Officer in the NFF; Emmanuel Babayaro former Super Eagles player and 1996 Olympic Gold medal winner and James Peters, former National team coach, have petitioned the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja on the allege planned attack.
Meanwhile the group has vowed that no amount of intimidation would deter them from pursuing the corruption claims to a logical conclusion.
Tunde Aderibigbe who spoke with our correspondent when the news of the alleged plot to assassinate them came up, said they are determined more than earlier to tell the whole world about the huge rot in the NFF.
Mr Aderibigbe further said that they have been warned about such moves to kill them but stressed that they will not be distracted.
“Best Choice Sports has been doing a great job in this fight and I urge you and your manager and other media to sustain this tempo.
“We heard about the N10 million paid to assassins to kill us but as I am talking to you, those who paid them will be the ones to be killed. They are the ones to be murdered.
“What crime did we commit? That we are fighting for the future and development of Nigeria football? Is that our undoing?
“This fight is not about Tunde Aderibigbe. It is not about Emmanuel Babayaro and this fight is not about James Peters. Nigerians should see beyond their nose and screen and know that Nigeria football, the only sport and sector that units this great country, has been rubbished under this current NFF leadership.
“We are not the only ones fighting this course. There are many other Nigerians and we will not relent. We are not deterred and will not be intimidated by anybody. This is a fight for Nigeria football survival and progress.
“You and millions of Nigerians have been following these revelations, did we at any point say that anybody in NFF stole money? We cannot do that. What we are saying is that monies running into billions have been misused, misappropriated and somebody needs to account for them.
“All we have against some of them are allegations and we want them to come straight and clear their names. Football belongs to all of us and we will not be cowed at any point,” he said.
