Ahead of the commencement of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL season, Champions, Rivers United Football Club of Port Harcourt will battle Ghana Premier League winners, Asante Kotoko inthe City Gates Champions Cup in Istanbul, Turkey.

The unique encounter will hold on August 24, 2022

The high profile encounter was announced by the on Thursday, July 28 when Ghana Premier League champions Kumasi Asante Kotoko launched their Turkey pre-season tour and their upcoming Ghana – Naija Super Cup against Rivers United.

The event which was held at the Accra Sports Stadium brought together the leadership of the clubs, supporters and the media alongside the Cameroonian duo Frank Etouga Mbella and Georges Mfegue.

Also in attendance were the clubs traveling partners, City Gate Travel and Tour.

The City Gate Travel and Tour are expected to guide the Porcupines to make a successful trip to Turkey where the team will play against the champions of Nigeria, Rivers United in Istanbul as part of their preparations for the CAF Champions League.

Rivers United and Asante Kotoko are both champions of their leagues and their managements are preparing assiduously for their 2022/2023 league campaigns as well as CAF Champions League.

Best Choice Sports gathered that the Porcupine Warriors who won their 24th Ghana Premier League title under Prosper Narteh Ogum will fly out to Turkey for a preseason tour from August 15 to August 30.

On their part, Rivers United will embark on a two-week training tour in Real Madrid on a date yet to be announced by the club. The Club’s financier and Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike disclosed the training tour when he hosted the players and management of the club last week after the NPFL triumph.
