Remo Stars Attack: Insurance Holds NNL To Ransom, Group B2 Matches Suspended
By Amaechi Agbo
The Southern Conference Group B2 Matches of the 2020/2021 Nigeria National League NNL have been suspended indefinitely following Bendel Insurance withdrawal from the league, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report
The suspension was sequel to withdrawal of Bendel Insurance from the league following attack on its players by Remo Stars Football Club in Ogun State this month.
Consequent upon NFF’s decision which awarded the sum of N400, 000 as damages to the Edo state owned club, the government in reaction suspended the club’s participation in the league pending when “justice is served”
This was as the government said it would drag the NFF and NNL to court to seek redress.
Following the withdrawal, the NNL has suspended all matches in Group B2 “to give a level playing ground to all clubs,”
“The Nigeria National League wishe to inform you that, due to the accumulated outstanding matches involving Bendel Insurance FC and their pending case with NFF Appeal’s Committee , it has become necessary to place all matches in Group B2 on hold,” the NNL said Thursday.
“This is to give a level playing ground for all clubs in Group B2 in view of the critical stage of the league,” the release signed by the league’s Chief Operating Officer,
Emmanuel Adesanya, said.
