Nigeria’s champions, Rivers United on Sunday rekindled their hope of quarter-final berth in the CAF Confederation Cup as they thrashed visiting ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast 3-0 in Group B

The Port Harcourt based side needed a lifeline following their humilititing similar scoreline against Diables Noirs of Congo last weekend.

Rivers United made intent their ambition in less than a minute as Malachi Ohawume scored within seconds of commencement of the encounter to rattle the visitors.

Ukeme Williams made it 2-0 in the 42nd minute before Denis Ndasi made it 3-0, 3 minutes after the restart.

Despite mounting last minute pressure to reduce the deficit, the visitors left the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo empty handed as they continue to search for their first win in the group. Mimosas played a draw with Motema Pembe in the opening fixtures.

Rivers United will be on the road for their matchday 3 encounter with Motema Pembe of Congo on Sunday February 26.
