“Rumble In Enugu” Boxing Championship Holds in October

Lovers of boxing in Enugu State will be in for a great boxing show next month when the “Rumble in Enugu” Boxing Championship takes centre stage.
Tagged “Mountain Top” the Rumble in Enugu boxing event will hold at the Parliament Hall, Post-Primary Schools Management Board (PPSMB) Headquarters in Enugu on October 22nd, 2025.
Organised by Ikeuj Boxing Promotion, with approval by the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBB& C), in collaboration with the Action Committee on Sports Literacy and the Enugu State government, the competition will commence by 10 o clock in the mooring.
The Championship will feature legendary Nigerian boxers such as; Ikechukwu Okoronkwo (The Emperor), Shedrack Ozoemena (De-Bull Nwa-Nike), Zoe Chibuke Okoronkwo, Isreal Ogbodo, and Jude Ugwuanyi (Tiger Dan the Baron).
Speaking with the media in Enugu on Saturday, the founder of Ikeuj Boxing Promotion, Comrade Ikechukwu Okoronkwo, an ex-international boxer, said the championship will showcase Nigeria’s boxing superstars while Speaker of Enugu State Grassroots Boxing Completion will also feature.
“It will feature professional boxers discovered during the Speaker of Enugu State grassroots Boxing Talent Hunt. They will compete against any other boxer in the country within their weight category.
“We also have the Undercard competition which will feature U-15 and U-18 boxers. The Championship will offer the state the opportunity to select boxers that will represent itat the National Youth Games next year.
“It will also feature elite and Undercard or Olympic Style of boxing. The elite are those that have been given professional boxing licence to fight. The Undercard are those still developing. We are projecting the boxers and giving them a platform to compete so we need the best in the world to come and fight them. You can’t claim you are undefeated in the world without fight those ones. The Undercard is assembling of empowerment programme of Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State through the Speaker of Enugu State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Uche Ugwu Grassroots Boxing Talent Hunt.
“I have been visiting Local Governments in Enugu State training their young boxers, the Undercard is an opportunity to bring them together to compete. We are using the Undercard to showcase these athletes because it is a developmental project,” he said.
