There is palpable tension between the Ministry of Youth and sports development and the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF over the choice of the new Super Eagles technical adviser, www.bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.

This is coming after the two bodies are thorn apart on who should become the new coach of the Super Eagles.

In an emergency meeting held on Monday, April 4th, the ministry led by the Minister Sunday Dare, who sources say have been under immense pressure from the Presidency following the failure of the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, told the NFF to employ a former international as the new Eagles coach.

This directive, according to sources in the know, did not go down well with the federation’s officials who insisted on having a foreign coach for the team.

Feelers indicate that the sports ministry, acting on the instructions of the Presidency is maintaining ground on appointment of former Eagles player to handle the team.

Sunday Olisheh is being considered in this capacity but the NFF are not willing to bulge in their stand

It was understood that while the ministry is clamouring for a technical bench made up of indigenous coaches, the NFF is pushing for a a technical bench headed by a foreign technical adviser supported by ex internationals.

Although the details of the Monday night meeting at press time were sketchy, the NFF Executive board will hold a meeting later today to finalize on the appointments the new Super Eagles technical crew.

The NFF is racing against time to assemble the technical crew as the Super Eagles will regroup in June for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON qualifiers.

The NFF on Thursday last week sacked the entire technical staff of the Super Eagles after the team failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Playing at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Abuja, the Eagles came from behind to hold visiting Black Stars of Ghana 1-1 with the latter progressing to the global football mundial on away goal’s rule.
