Reigning Africa Women’s Football of the Year holder, Asisat Oshoala have tested positive for the novel Covid-19, Bestchoicesport.com.ng can report.

The Super Falcons captain was left out of Barcelona women’s training camp in Algorfa, where the squad will stay for 10 days preparing for the 2021/2022 season.

Although the club is yet to make result public,
Catalan daily sports newspaper, based in Barcelona, L’Esportiu, revealed that “Asisat Oshoala is the infected COVID-19 Barça footballer.”

The European champions, while announcing the squad for the friendly game in Alicante, were silent on the whereabouts of their star striker despite not being listed among the 23 players travelling for the match.

The club announced that Ingrid Engen, Andrea Pereira and Cata Coll, who were not included in the travelling party due to various injuries, will join the team later but kept mum on the whereabouts of Oshoala.

Meanwhile, a Catalan daily sports newspaper, based in Barcelona, L’Esportiu, has revealed that the four-time African Women’s Footballer of The Year missed the party due to COVID-19.

“The player did not authorise the club to give information about her situation and therefore it had not transpired who the affected player was, but her identity has been revealed when the list of the 23 called up for the preseason was made official.

“Ingrid Engen has not travelled due to a quadriceps injury to her right thigh and Andrea Pereira and Cata Coll, also with physical discomfort, have not been included in the list either, but are expected to join the squad later. This will not be the case for Oshoala, who will miss the entire stay because she has to be isolated in her home.

“Oshoala’s positive case was detected by the club on Monday, on Barça’s first day of work after the holidays. The player has been isolated ever since.”
