The Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF has launched investigation into a post on Twitter from @DTigressNG alleging that the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports had purportedly released funds for the prosecutions of the FIBA Africa Pre-Olympics Qualifying tournament in Mozambique, Bestchoicesports.com.ng understands

In a statement signed by the NBBF President, Engr Musa Kida, he described the tweet as malicious and a conscious attempts by detractors bent on derailing the D’Tigress from qualifying for the Olympics.

“The attention of the Nigeria Basketball Federation has been drawn to a publication via a twitter handle ‘D’TigresNG’ alleging that the Ministry has released funds to the NBBF and that the NBBF could not pay the D’Tigres players which represented Nigeria at the Tournament in Maputo, Mozambique, their appropriate allowances in order to prosecute the Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament whose first window ended in Maputo, Mozambique, a few days ago.”

While setting the record straight, Kida said, “Let it be on record that, NBBF was unable to pay the players their full allowance in Maputo as it was not in position to do so due to lack of funds, as it has not received any related funding from the ministry yet, which is still being processed and expected.”

“The Federation made it clear to the players in Maputo that when the funds eventually become available, they will receive their full entitlements”, he continued.

According to the statement, “The NBBF wants the public to note that it does not have any form of control of this twitter handle and it dissociates itself in every material particular from that twitter publication which is indeed false and misleading and urges members of the public and all concerned to disregard it in its entirety.”

He thanked the Federal Government and the Honorable Minister of Youths, Sunday Dare for their unflinching support to the cause of the NBBF and the National Teams.

It would be recalled that Nigeria over the weekend in Maputo booked an Olympics Qualifiers Tournament ticket after beating Mali in the semifinal of the FIBA Africa pre-OQT.
