Turf Arena Football Club has emerged the champions of the FCT Football Association 2023 League and received two hundred thousand naira (₦200, 000) cash reward.

The young lads were crowned champions on Saturday after they topped the Super 4 play-off after their final match against Catholic Cadet FC at the Old Parade Ground, Area 10, Garki, Abuja.

At the end of the round-robin Super 4 final, Turf Arena emerged winners despite having equal 5 points with second-placed Catholic Cadet FC.

Their final match on Saturday ended in a barren draw as both teams ended the playoff 5 points apice.

However, Turf Arena FC were crowned winners by the virtue of their superior goal difference of +2 while Catholic Cadet had zero goal difference.

Other teams that qualified for the Super 4 Play-off include Abees Football Academy and Jay One FC.

Speaking with journalists at the end of the final witnessed by top football administrators and stakeholders in the Federal Capital Territory, the FCT FA 1st Vice Chairman, Hon Saliu Kolo said the league and the final play-off lived up to expectations and lauded the teams and their players for their professional conduct during the league.

Hon. Kolo poured encomium on the FCT FA Chairman, Mouktar Mohammed for his visionary leadership and support for the league and football development in the FCT.

“This is the first time we have the league in the FCT and so many teams registered. It was a peaceful league and we thank the chairman who has been supportive financially and morally.

“The team’s and players were professional in their conduct and we must commend them.

“The chairman created five centres for the competition so that remote Area Council will be able to bring their young ones to the limelight. We have the talented ones but they don’t have the opportunity of coming to the town. But this time around, we have centres in Gwagwalada, Bwari.

“In the next edition, we will have a centre in Abaji Area Council,” he stated.

The FCT FA 2023 League season which kicked off on February 20 was rounded off on Saturday, May 20, 2023.
