Four hundred and fifty-five days after, Nigeria Olympic Team player, Kelechi Nwakali, has played his first competitive club game for his La Liga club, Huesca.

The former Nigeria U-17 captain, featured for Huesca in their 2-1 home defeat to Mirandes in the Spanish Segunda on Thursday.

According to Punch, the game was Nwakali’s first since making an appearance for FC Porto B in a 1-1 draw against CD Cova Piedade on March 17, 2019, making it 455 days before playing another competitive club game.

Nwakali replaced Sergio Gomez in the 83rd minute but failed to help his team get even in the encounter.

Reacting after the game, the 22-year-old wrote on Instagram, “Thank God for the game. Although it wasn’t the best result for the team, we keep the focus on the next game.”

Huesca are currently on 53 points and fourth on the log, seven points behind leaders, Cadiz.

Since his move in September 2019, the Nigerian has waited patiently for his maiden appearance – with his closest attempt being an unused substitute role in the 3-1 triumph at Malaga on June 12
