U-20 AFCON: Egypt Coach Accuses Nigeria, Senegal Of Age Cheat
By Amaechi Agbo
Egyptian coach, Ehab Gala has accused Nigeria and Senegal of parading overaged players at the ongoing 2023 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON in Egypt.
The Egyptian goalkeeper trainer made the accusation after his side lost 1-0 to Nigeria and were pummeled 4-0 by Senegal at the group stage of the tournament which finally ended their hope of going further in the competition.
In an interview with Senegalese news channel Wiwsports, Galal singled out Nigeria’s defender Solomon Agbalaka, who scored the only goal of the match against them, as one of the overage players.
“Most African teams have players who are over the age required to be able to play this competition. These teams have many players with fake ages.
“The Senegalese goalkeeper, for example, seems older, as well as Nigeria’s number 3 player who seems to be old, and other Nigerian players.
“The African Cup of Nations is completely different from the Arab Championship in terms of strength, and we registered players into the tournament late, especially since the national team did not play many matches to prepare before its start.” he was quoted
Hosts Egypt crashed out of the AFCON U-20 after playing just one draw against Mozambique and lost to Nigeria and Senegal.
Both Nigeria and Senegal qualified for the quarter-final which will commence on Thursday
