UEFA Super Cup: Female Referee To Officiate Liverpool Vs Chelsea Match
Female referee Stephanie Frappart has been selected to officiate UEFA Super Cup clash between Chelsea and Liverpool.
The match which is set to be played on August 14th will see, for the first time ever a female official taking charge of UEFA men’s competition event. This comes a few months for the Frenchwoman after she officiated the Women’s World Cup final between the United States and the Netherlands in July. She will be accompanied by Manuela Nicolosi of France and Michell O’Neal from the Republic of Ireland who will be the assistant referees as confirmed by the UEFA. Meanwhile, the fourth official will be Cuneyt Cakir from Turkey.
“I have said on many occasions that the potential for women’s football has no limits and I am delighted that Stéphanie Frappart has been appointed to officiate at this year’s UEFA Super Cup along with assistant referees Manuela Nicolosi and Michelle O’Neal,” said UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin.
“As an organization, we place the utmost importance on the development of women’s football in all areas. I hope the skill and devotion that Stéphanie has shown throughout her career to reach this level will provide inspiration to millions of girls and women around Europe and show them there should be no barriers in order to reach one’s dream.”
Video Assistant Referees (VAR) will be in use for the game.
