Africa Footballer of the Year, Victor Osimhen will miss Nigeria’s matchday 3 and 4 of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic next month due to injury
The Napoli striker finished the Serie A season with 17 goals, will be ruled out for four weeks
Nigeria will host South Africa next week Friday, June 7 and Benin Republic three days later, on 10th.
Osimhen was reported injured despite featuring for 65 minutes in Napoli’s 0-0 draw against Lecce in the Serie A final game on Sunday
There were fears that he could miss the games two weeks ago because he was struggling with a slight injury at Napoli. However, those fears were allayed after he played for the club in the final game of the season against Lecce.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles’ Coach Finidi George has called up Enugu Rangers’ left back, Kenneth Igboke for the World Cup qualifiers as Osimhen’s replacement.
Igboke has been instrumental in Rangers International FC of Enugu’s rejuvination in the league which helped them to top the league standings with 60 points after 33 matches.
