World Athletics Championship: Minister Demands Explanations Over Odudu, Okagbare Disqualification …Set To Recall AFN Technical Director

The minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare has demanded for explanations following the disqualification of Nigeria athletes, Divine Odudu and Blessing Okagbare from thr 100 and 200m races at the on-going 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championship in Doha, Qatar, bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.

The minister made the demand yesterday following outcry the unwholesome disqualification had generated particularly in the social media

Reliable sources within the AFN and Nigeria sports circle have said that the Minister have directed the immediate recall to the country of the technical director of the AFN Mr. Sunday Adeleye over glaring administrative lapses and violation of the rules and regulations of the IAAF.

The duo of Divine Odudu and Blessing Okagbare both medal hopefuls stand disqualified for not showing up for the 100 meters they had been entered for.

Consequently by the rules of the IAAF, the duo were disqualified from participating in the 200 meters.

The Minister who had followed developments in Doha till the early hours of Sunday morning is said to have given the order of recall and probable immediate investigation of the TD to establish the extent of negligence and administrative lapses that has brought international embarrassment to the country.

“Doha-all day I have followed the developments around two of our Athletes, Divine and Blessing. Our officials are at the IAAF Technical Information Center as we speak. Nigerians deserve an explanation,” the minister said Saturday morning.

Meanwhile Bestchoicesports.com.ng can authoritatively report that the duo of Blessing Okagbare and Divine Oduduru have appealed the IAAF decision to disqualify them from the World Athletics Championships.

They were disqualified from running the 200m and relays after a DNS in the 100m. They appealed on the grounds that they informed the AFN that they would only run the 200m.
