Nigeria’s Football Ambassador, Daniel Amokachi has said that former Super Eagles coach, late Amodu Shuaibu ‘went to hell for Nigeria and back for Nigeria but was never appreciated,’ Bestchoicesports.com.ng reports.

 Popularly called Da Bull during his heydays, Amockachi said this on Wednesday while paying tribute to late Amodu who died on 10^th June, 2016; three days after the death of another coach, Stephen Keshi.

In an emotion-ladden tribute on his Facebook account, Amokachi recalled glorious and hilarious moments both shared adding that event though Nigeria does not appreciate late Amodu, he does know his worth  

“Coacheeee… I Can Hear U (you) say MAGUZAWA 😀😅😁😄 Dan they can’t kill mee (me) and we will burst out laughing, u (you) went to hell and back for this country of ours Nigeria but we never appreciated u (you) but I do know your worth sir. U (you) will always remain in our hearts sir #rip #Ahmadushaibu u (you) are missed sir #keepingitreal,” he said.

Late Amodu coached a number of club sides in Nigeria, such as BCC Lions, El-Kanemi Warriors, and Shooting Stars; he also managed Orlando Pirates in South Africa.

He first managed the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles from April 2001 to February 2002. Amodu later stated that his dismissal was “unfair”, and also said that, a month later, he had yet to receive a formal letter confirming his dismissal.

He was re-appointed manager in April 2008. In December 2009 the Nigeria Football Federation stated that Amodu was under pressure, and in January 2010 there was speculation about his future. He was sacked in February 2010.

Amodu was appointed technical director of Nigeria’s national teams in May 2013.

He was re-appointed Nigeria manager in October 2014, replacing Stephen Keshi. It was his fifth spell in charge of the country. Keshi returned to the role two weeks later but was fired in July 2015 and Amodu took over the Eagles again temporarily. He was replaced by Sunday Oliseh on a permanent basis later that month.

Late coach Amodu Shuaibu remains the only Nigeria coach that qualified the Super Eagles in two World Cups – 2002 and 2010 – but never led the team to the finals.
