20, 000 Pupils To Participate In Maiden Edition Of Headmasters Cup

Determined to revamp and chart a new course for grassroots sports development, the ministry of youth and sports is set to launch Headmasters Cup across the country.

The minister, Sunday Dare disclosed this Friday in Abuja. A total of 20 000 pupils across the country are projected to take part in the tournament.

Hon. Dare made this assertion during a visit by the Nigeria Tulip International College, NTIC, led some discovered talented young athletes from the 2019 National Youth Games on a visit to his office.

The minister reiterated federal government resolve and commitment to support the development of grassroot sports, through a new initiative of the Headmasters as well as the Principals Cup tournaments.

To buttress this, the Hon. Minister said that the Headmasters tournament which will involve 20, 000 primary schools across the nation will be used to grow and nurture a new generation of athletes that will take over the older ones.

Nigerian Tulip International College is partnering with the ministry to give the athletes 100% scholarship for their secondary school education, authenticating and validating what the country sets out to do as a nation that loves sports, not just football but other sports.

The minister however, did not disclose when the tournament will commence
