2013 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON hero, Sunday Mba has disclosed that current players of the Super Eagles lack commitment to play for the three-time Africa champions.

Mba who went into oblivion after scoring Nigeria’s winning goal against Burkina Faso in the final, noted that in his days with the team, dedication and unity was paramount.

Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar after drawing 1-1 with Ghana in Abuja on March 29 with the Black Stars progressing on away goal rule.

Speaking with a former Eagles left back, Ifeanyi Udeze in a radio programme, the former Rangers International FC of Enugu star questioned the criteria with which the players were selected for the national team.

“There was Unity in the camp, we were together as family and the result started to come in,” Mba stated.

“I wasn’t the only home based player, but I was the only one that broke into the team.”

“The foreign base players treated us well. There was no discrimination and Late Stephen Keshi made sure of that,” he continued.

“Our Super Eagles are not making us happy, this team is playing like they don’t care about the national team. Some of them do not merit to come to the team, and some do not merit to play.

“I sometimes doubt how they are selected, they are not even playing entertaining or captivating football and you will be disappointed when you watch them play.”

Nigeria won her 3rd Africa Cup of Nations crown in South Africa on February 10, 2013 after a 1-0 win against Burkina Faso.

Sunday Mba scored the only goal of the final match on the 40th minute.
