The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) and the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) have confirmed an international friendly blockbuster between the Elephants of Ivory Coast and the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, scheduled for Saturday, 3 October 2026.

The highly anticipated clash between two of African football’s ultimate heavyweights will take place at the 60,000-seat – Alassane Ouattara Olympic Stadium in Ebimpé, Abidjan – with kick-off set for 7:00 PM GMT.

While the match is designated as a friendly to help both teams fine-tune their squads following the opening rounds of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, matches between these two nations are historically fierce. The regional and footballing rivalry runs deep, stretching back over five decades to their first encounters in 1970.

Statistically, the sides share one of the most balanced head-to-head records in international football: Total Encounters: 21 matches; Ivory Coast Wins: 9; Cameroon Wins: 9 with 3 draws

Cameroon however edged the goal tally with 38 goals to Ivory Coast’s 37.

The upcoming October friendly serves as an immediate rematch of their intense battle at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Playing in a packed group-stage match on 28 December 2025, the two sides fought to a thrilling 1–1 draw.

In that encounter, Manchester United winger Amad Diallo broke the deadlock in the 51st minute to give the Elephants a deserved second-half lead. However, the Indomitable Lions roared back just five minutes later, forcing an equalizer through an own goal by Ivorian defender Ghislain Konan. A late, point-blank match-winning attempt by Cameroon’s Bryan Mbeumo was famously stopped by a body-blocking clearance from Odilon Kossounou, keeping the score leveled.

The match will serve as a crucial testing ground for both tactical setups as they map out their paths toward the 2027 AFCON tournament, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

Ivory Coast enters a fresh chapter following recent technical staff overhauls, aiming to assert home-turf dominance in front of their Abidjan faithful. Meanwhile, Cameroon’s technical staff will look to build on the unified locker room momentum generated during their recent qualification fixtures. With star power expected from both camps—including elite European-based talent—the Ebimpé showdown promises the intensity of a cup final under the guise of an international friendly.
