Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has assured fans that she remains in high spirits after suffering an injury scare during Nigeria’s 5-0 victory over Comoros in their 2028 Olympic Games qualifying campaign.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward provided an update on her condition in a statement on Thursday, following the injury she sustained during the second leg of Nigeria’s encounter against Comoros.

Ajibade was forced off in the first half after colliding with Comoros defender Diore Miriame Kaina Said, raising concerns about the severity of the injury and her availability for upcoming matches.

Reports subsequently suggested that the 26-year-old could face at least three months on the sidelines after suffering a suspected fracture to her right ankle.

However, the Super Falcons captain said medical assessments were still ongoing.

“Scans and medical consultations are ongoing and more updates will be shared when available. At the moment, I am doing okay and my spirits are high,” Ajibade stated,

The Nigerian international also expressed gratitude to supporters who had sent messages, prayers, and words of encouragement following the incident.

She acknowledged the support of her teammates, family, technical, and medical staff, as well as fans who had stood by her during the difficult period.

Despite the injury setback, Ajibade reflected positively on Nigeria’s start to their Olympic qualifying campaign, expressing pride in leading the team and praising the unity, discipline, and determination displayed by her teammates.

“It is an honour to lead this group of women. I am proud of how our team began its road to the Olympics, and of the unity, discipline, and fight each player brought to the national team,” she added.

The Super Falcons captain reiterated that her immediate priority was to recover fully before returning to competitive action.

“For now, my focus is on recovery and returning stronger for club and country,” she said.

Ajibade’s injury is a concern for both Nigeria and Paris Saint-Germain, given her importance to the two teams.

However, her exact recovery timeline remains uncertain as medical consultations continue.

The Super Falcons will hope their captain makes a successful recovery as they prepare for the next stage of their quest to qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
