Hosts, Cameroon on Sunday came from behind to defeated Burkina Faso 2-1 in the opening match of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.

The Indomitable Lions conceded the first goal in the tournament when Steeve Gangare scored in the 24th minute to make history as the scorer of the first goal in the 33rd edition of the continental showpiece

Cameroon responded with two goals from the spot through their captain, Vincent Abuobakar in the 40th and 45th minutes after Gustavo Sangaro scored the first goal of the tournament for Burkina Faso in the 24th minute

Aboubakar’s potential hat-trick goal in the 73rd minute was ruled out for offside after VAR check.

Aboubakar, nevertheless, made history on his own as he became the first player to score a brace in the tournament

The Indomitable Lions held on tenaciously to the end to record a deserved win on the opening day.

Burkina Faso, finalists in 2013 edition, mounted increased intensity twords the end but it mounted to naught.

The AFCON 2021 will end on February 6, 2022.
