AFN Sets Up 6-man Panel to Investigate Puma Contract Deal

The Athletic Federation of Nigeria, AFN Monday set up a 6-man panel to investigate how the federation signed a contract deal with a kit manufacturing company, Puma, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report
The six-member committee is chaired by Afolabi, Oluwole Olawale while Bolaji Dejiis the secretary.
Setting up the committee at the AFN secretariat in Abuja, the acting President of the federation, Olamide Geroge noted that the formation of the investigative panel became necessary following reports and clandestine moves surrounding the contractual deal.
The president gave the committee two weeks to submit its report.
According to the president, the committee’s terms of reference include:
“To evaluate the PUMA sponsorships terms of engagement, possible payments made, equipment delivered to AFN and any other.
To evaluate the violation of the AFN Constitution Article 6:6.1.4 by the President, Engr. Ibrahim Shehu Gusau by calling Annual General Congress of AFN without due process
To examine the records of expenditure of major championships, include but not limited to:
Africa U18 and U20 Athletics Championships in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.
IAAF World Championships in London and Doha, Qatar in 2017 and 2019 respectively and ascertain the amount approved by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and genuineness of all payments.
To examine and evaluate factors responsible for the viament of funds meant for payments to athletes, coaches and officials allowance at international events.
Identify and report the role and responsibility of the International Association of Athletics Federations, IAAF on the hosting of world championships to athletes and officials
To identify and report any other matters for further investigation to relevant agencies
To make recommendations that will ensure an improved and smooth Athletics Federation of Nigeria
To make any other recommendations as may be deemed fit by the committee.
The Committee is hereby inaugurated today Monday, December 9, 2019 at 4:00pm and is given two weeks to conclude its assignment and submit report.
It is expected that every member of the Committee will bring their wealth of experience as to ensure that the job is done discretely and objectively for the benefit of the sport.

Members of the committee include: Afolabi, Oluwole Olawale – Chairman: Timmon Gunnen – Member; Mkpa A. B. – Member; Jacob Onu – Member; Kenneth Iworari – Member and Bolaji Deji – Secretary.
Speaking after the inauguration, the committee chairman, Afolabi, Oluwole Olawale said that the panel will be diligent and forthright in carrying out their responsibility adding that invitation will be extended to the suspended chairman of the AFN, Ibrahim Gusau.
