A section of Asaba Township Stadium, Asaba, Delta State has collapsed 18 days to the commencement of the 2022 National Sports Festival, NSF to be hosted in the state, Bestchoicesports.com.nh can report

Although the cause of the collapse is not known as the time of this report, there are fears that casualties might have been sustained.

The incident occured on Thursday afternoon with unconfirmed reports saying three person were feared dead.

Asaba Township Stadium is part of the facilities to be used to host the National Sports Festival, NSF scheduled to begin from 28 November to 10 December this year.

Minister of youth and sports development, Sunday Dare, on Friday, led the main organising committee (MOC) and other officials on an inspection tour of sporting facilities at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta state.

In a statement, the organisers said the tour was aimed at ascertaining the Delta state government’s preparedness to host the bi-annual games.

Addressing journalists at the end of the inspection, the minister commended the condition of the facilities.

“I wish to commend the Delta government for its commitment towards the completion of ongoing construction and renovation work to ensure a smooth sports competition for athletes coming from the 36 states of the federation and the federal capital territory,” he said.

According to him, about eleven corporate organisations will partner with the state government to ensure a successful event.

Delta State are the defending champions after winning the last edition in Benin City Edo State early last year.

The state is primed to defend their crown as the state government is ready to feature over 1000 athletes in various sporting events at the festival.
