The 2020/2021 CAF Champions League campaign of NPFL champions, Plateau United has come to a disastrous end after the team was eliminiated in the first round preliminary stage of the league.

The Abdul Maikaba led lads Saturday played out a goalless draw with their host, Simba FC in Tanzania.

The team needed at least a goal-to-nil scoreline to take the match to extra time but a resolute defending by the home team stymied all efforts the lads made to score a goal.

Clatus Chama’s sole goal in the first leg in Jos on Sunday was enough to put the Tanzanian outfit into the next round.

With this result, Plateau United is the first NPFL team to crash out of the CAF interclub competitions with two other representatives, Kano Pillars and Rivers United’s fate hanging in the balance.

As at the time of this report, Kano Pillars and Jaraaf FC are playing goalless in Kaduna.
