The Confederation of Africa Football, CAF has sanctioned the Kenya Football Federation, FKF over Covid-19 violations and suspended its two officials.

The Harambee Stars pay full price for Covid-19 violation following their refusal to take tests before a game. As a result, Kenya fielded four infected players against the Comoros played in November last year during the qualifiers for the 2021 AFCON.

Thus, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) suspended two of its officials. But also, fines the Kenyan Football Federation (FKF).

The CAF prohibits Barry Otieno and Ronny Oyando of all activities related to soccer. This, for 6 months. They are, respectively, the SG of the FKF and the manager of the Harambee Stars. Both managers are guilty of refusing and then delaying Covid-19 PCR tests before the match. Their conduct resulted in the team being fined $20,000 (10.8 million FCFA).

“The test results arrived a few minutes before kick-off, during the warm-up, due to the delay,” CAF recalls. Four players tested positive ((including Captain Victor Wanyama) took part in the game.

Barry Otieno denies, of course, the accusations that he was considering his options. “I have just become aware of the allegations. I will consult internally on the next steps,” he said. Notwithstanding this, CAF has made a decision and as a member, we will abide by it”.
