Cameroon will host the 23rd edition of the Africa Championship Athletics in 2022 for the first time in 22 years.Cameroon last hosted the biennial continental athletics event in 1996 during the 10th edition between June 13-16 at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium.The decision was arrived at following a meeting of the Confederation of African Athletics CAA which took place on Tuesday September 24, 2019 in Doha.The president of CAA, -Cameroonian born Hamad Kalkaba Malboum had three major issues tabled before him during the continental association’s meeting on Tuesday.The issues centered on the report of Africa competitions and activities of the AADC, the 2019 All African games in Rabat Morocco , the introduction of a global calendar and a review of representatives of the continent within the IAAF.Also, the meeting looked into the African candidacy and the situation of the Russian and Gabonese Athletics Federations.The Africa Championship in Athletics is a continental athletic event organized by the Confederation of Africa Athletic, CAA every two years.Nigeria hosted the 21st edition in August 2018.Cameroon will host the 23rd edition in 2022 after Algeria organises the 2020 edition.
