English League One side, Charlton Athletic has signed dazzling Nigeria goalkeeper, Samuel Friday from Mavlon FC

The teenager was snapped up by the South-east London based club after displaying excellent performance in the colours of Mavlon FC against Sporting Lagos in a friendly game that ended 3-3 last weekend in Lagos.

Ages just 17, the teenage goalkeeper caught the radar of some clubs in Europe after he displayed great goalkeeping prowess for Malvon FC at the Viareggio Cup Tournament in Italy in March this year and he has continued to show tremendous progress.

Standing at 6ft.5, he is physically built as an ideal goalkeeper for modern day football. It is therefore not a surprise that Italian clubs like Torino FC, Fiorentina FC and Udinese all developed interest in the 17 years old sensation between the sticks.

Now that James has found his way to Charlton Athletic to continue his football development, it is hoped that the youngster will fulfil his potential in Europe.

Report indicates that the management of Charlton Athletic are very excited with the presence of James at their training ground, especially with his intimidating height, which dwarfs other goalkeepers in the U-21 set up at the club.

And at a time when there is a shortage of dynamic Nigerian goalkeepers, it is heart warming that Mavlon FC has been able to discover and nurture a raw talent in James, who is ready to take up the challenge of plying his trade in Europe, everything working out fine at Charlton Athletic.
