COAS Shooters have emerged champions of the 2024 National Division One Handball League in the men’s category.

COAS Shooters beat Osun United 21-16 goals in the final of the men’s category played at the indoor sports hall of Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City on Friday.

The team Coordinator Brigadier General AR Bello strengthen the team and effectively monitor their training. The team was relegated about three years ago. 

An elated Brigadier General Bello revealed that it took the special intervention of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja through timely logistics for the team to get the desired results.

Bello stated that anything short of the trophy would have not been accepted due to the commitment of the Nigeria Army in supporting the team.

He said, “I want to thank God Almighty for using the Coaches as a vessel to handle the COAS Shooters. Winning the Division 1 and most importantly qualifying for next season Ardova Handball Premier League is a big deal.

“Special thanks to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed  Lagbaja for his support to the team through the Chief of Training Army. Director of Physical Training Army Brigadier General Abdulraheem Bello hailed the team for bringing glory to the Army

He stated that the Army has demonstrated the ability to excel in sporting activities due to its proper planning and execution of programs.

He said, “Commendation must be given to the players and coaches for bringing honour to the Nigerian Army. The Army  will continue to provide an enabling environment for the athletes to thrive”.
