Delta State Emeges Overall Winners In Weightlifting As 2022 Sports Festival Ends In Asaba

Delta state won a total of 47 medals including 21 gold, 16 silver and 9 bronze to emerge overall winners in Weightlifting events of the 2022 National Sports Festival in Asaba Delta State which ended on Saturday.
The Big Heart State came top ahead of 23 other states including Oyo, Bayelsa, Lagos and Edo who came 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th in that order.
Oyo State won 11 gold, one silver and 3 bronze medals to place 2nd, Bayelsa were 3rd with 7 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze medals.
Lagos State got 6 gold, 9 silver and 3 bronze medals totally 18 to occupy 4th position while 2021 host, Edo State had a total of 17 medals including 4 gold, 7 silver and 6 bronze to stay 5th.
With 3 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medals, Akwa Ibom State earned their 6th position just as Abia State came 7th with 2 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals. Kano came 8th with 2 gold and 3 bronze medal.
Federal Capital Territory, FCT occupied 9th position with 2 gold and one bronze medals. Although Plateau State had 8 medals, they were not good enough to put them ahead of FCT as they recorded one gold, one silver and 6 bronze medals to be placed 10th.
Occupying 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 positions are Osun, Rivers, Niger, Anambra, Kwara and Cross River States with one gold, one silver and one bronze; 3 silver and 5 bronze; 3 silver; 2 silver and 1 bronze; one silver and 2 bronze as well as one silver and one bronze medals, respectively.
Nasarawa, Ekiti and Ondo States had one silver each to claim joint 17th position. Bauchi and Kaduna occupied 18 and 19 positions with 2 and 1 bronze medals while Kogi and Ogun State are joint on 20th position with one bronze medal each.
The Weightlifting events which held in the Multi-purpose Hall of Orchid Hotels in Asaba began on Monday December 5 and ended on Saturday, December 9 with medal presentations to the winners.
