DR Congo Bundled Out Of AWCON Qualifying Race AsEquatorial Guinea walks through
By Agency Report
The Democratic Republic of Congo’s women’s national football team, has been kicked out of qualifiers for the 2022 African Woman’s cup of Nations.
This comes after Marcello Kadiamba and his girls failed to show up for the first leg of their game against Equatorial Guinea last Wednesday, in malabo.
The congolese did not make the trip to malabo, with several reports citing logistic and financial difficulties on the part of the congolese FA.
Equatorial Guinea had already expressed their desire to honor the return leg of the fixture initially scheduled for the Stade de Martyrs this Sunday October, 24, but the Confederation of African football, CAF has now indicated that the game will no longer hold, stating that they will exercise article 62 of the tournament’s regulations.
This means that the DR Congo Football Federation will have to pay a hefty fine, and risk suspension for the next two AWCON tournaments.
Equatorial Guinea is therefore through to the next round of qualifiers for the 2022 AWCON, that is scheduled to take place in the kingdom of Morocco.
