Germany on Tuesday came from behind to beat Nigeria’s Flamingos 2-1 in the ongoing 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India.

Miracle Usani put the Nigeria girls ahead in the 28th minute when she drilled a low shot from a free kick to give Nigeria the lead.

Prior to the goal, Germany had more possession (60-40). Although Opeyemi Ajakaye had come close, hitting the post, but Alber had 2 chances for Germany, first denied by Faith Omilana, and then the German striker headed wide. Omilana also tipped off Janzen’s shot.

However, shortly after the break, Germany found the equalizer after Stoldt got a touch from a cross to bring her team level.

The German ladies went into the lead, getting in behind the Nigerian defence after the Flamingos failed to mop up their lines. Mara Alber got in and found the perfect spot to beat Faith Omilana.

The Flamingos thus opened their FIFA U-17 World Cup account losing their 1st Group B game against Germany. They pushed forward in search for a late leveler but the Germans held firmly to ensure that the Nigerians ended the game in defeat

Chile leads the group with 3 points after their 3-1 win against New Zealand while Germany are second with same number of points but inferior goal difference.

Nigeria is placed 3rd with zero points along their next opponents, New Zealand who are 4th. Nigeria will take on New Zealand on Friday in matchday 2 and will need a win to entertain hope of knockout stage progress
