The 2022 World Cup in Qatar might have come and gone but the echo of Super Eagles failure to qualify for the 22nd edition of the global football fiesta continues to riverbrate.
Less than two months after Argentina were crowned world champion, Super Eagles’ striker, Odion Ighalo has revealed one of the most shocking things that happened before Nigeria vs Ghana World Cup second leg playoff in Abuja.
In a conversation with Oma Sports TV the former Manchester United forward, stated that there are serious contentious matters going on behind the scenes with the national team squad.
“There is so much going on in the Super Eagles. I am the guy who does not talk much, and I don’t create problems. I’m on my lane, and that’s why I’m in Saudi Arabia; I do my thing and live my life. I don’t want issues.” he said.
He further said that the then Coach Austin Eguavoen couldn’t even tell him directly to why there’s a change of formation despite practicing on a singular one for two days.
“They told me two hours before the game that I was not going to start. We were having lunch, and they had to call me out that we want to do this and that. Even the coach did not call me.” he continued.
“I said no problem. Senior man, no problem, he is the coach, my prayer is that whatever the formation is, we win the game. God just said we were not going to the World Cup,” he added.
The March 29 encounter saw the Super Eagles come from behind to draw Black Stars 1-1 in Abuja. The draw handed Ghana the crucial ticket on away goal rule.
