The Edo State female Rugby players Thursday marked the International Women’s Day with Exclusive Rugby Tournament to celebrate global womanhood, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report

Nigerian Female Rugby players in Edo State who are the host of the forthcoming 20th National Sports Festival (22 March to 01 April 2020) to which Rugby will be featured as a medal winning event after ten years of its absence, joined other Women around the World to celebrate the International Day for Women on Thursday 05 March 2020 at Idia College in Benin City with a Mini Seven -A – Side Rugby Tournament which featured four teams.

The Women exclusive Rugby Tournament saw the Highlanders defeat Pitbull Women Rugby Team in an epic finals by 14points to 5points to lift the Ehibam Griefshare Foundation Women Days Rugby Trophy.

The third place match saw an All Stars Female Rugby Team made up of veterans in the game of Rugby defeat RocketBull Women Rugby Team by 14points to nil to receive the bronze medals.

Meanwhile, Mariam Yahaya of the Highlanders Women Team was adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament and received the MVP trophy, while sensational petite Gift Ehigie of the same Highlanders Women Rugby team scored 4 Trys to win the Highest Try Scorer of the Tournament which saw over 500 pupils of Idia and Emotan College respectively in attendance.

This greatly attracted the attention of the onlookers who walked in to catch a climbs of the Women Rugby event.

We will like to sincerely thank the organisers and some sponsors like Ehibam Griefshare Foundation who donated trophies, medals and refreshment for the girls alongside the players themselves who actually contributed to help host the event and celebrate womanhood.

Edo State is fast becoming the home of Rugby as it holds the enviable bragging rights as the National Women’s Rugby Champions and the highest number of Gold Medals (4 Gold) at the two editions of the National Sports Festival where Rugby featured as a medal wining event (2006 Gateway Games and 2009 Kada Games) respectively.

This event ushered in the Rugby Teams alongside the entire Team Edo to an intensive closed camping period towards the 20th National Sports Festival tagged “Edo 2020” where Edo State will be hosting to win like it did 18 years ago when she also hosted and won convincingly
