Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi was the hero at Craven Cottage on Saturday scoring a decisive goal to lead Fulham to a 1-0 victory over Hull City. The strike marked Iwobi’s first Premier League goal of the campaign and ended a six-game winless run for the Cottagers.

Alex Iwobi collected the ball outside the penalty box on 33rd Minute and unleashed a low shot that took a slight deflection off Hull defender Lucas Herrington before beating goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis into the bottom corner.

Iwobi Celebrating his goal

Fulham held firm throughout the second half, restricting Hull City to zero goals and securing their first clean sheet of the league season.

Speaking after the final whistle, the Nigerian playmaker expressed his relief and joy at helping his side kickstart their season:

”It feels amazing to get off the mark this season, but more importantly, to get three points on the board for the team. We knew how crucial this match was after the run we had been on.”

On his opening goal, Iwobi added: “I saw the space opening up outside the box and just decided to take the shot early. Once you put it on target, good things happen. We’ve been working hard in training with the new manager, and today that hard work paid off. Now we just have to keep this momentum going into the next games.”

Alex Iwobi’s match-winning strike in the 1-0 victory over Hull City has provided a critical turning point for Fulham manager Álvaro Arbeloa.

Having succeeded Marco Silva in July 2026 on a three-year deal, Arbeloa faced mounting scrutiny and growing sack fears after failing to secure a single victory in his opening six Premier League fixtures.

The 1-0 win lifts Fulham off the foot of the Premier League table and temporarily halts media speculation regarding early dismissal.

Arbeloa noted post-match that his side had been playing well in previous games without getting rewarded, but dominating Hull for 90 minutes and keeping a clean sheet validates his structural setup.

Calling it a “massive week,” the win gives Arbeloa crucial momentum heading into upcoming fixtures against Coventry City in the league and Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup.

”I am very happy, especially for the supporters; they deserve this win. For the players, they were looking for this victory and have been working so hard. We deserved it in other matches, but we couldn’t get it; today was finally the day. We have to be competitive in this league. We have our way and hope we can win many games.” The coach said
