Defending champions, Enyimba International FC of Aba, have returned the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL trophy they won in 2019 to League Management Company, LMC, www.bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.

The People’s Elephant returned the giant trophy over the weekend.

NPFL managers, the LMC confirmed the development on Sunday.

“New champions in the offing?,” LMC said on their Facebook page

“Outgoing titleholders & 8-time winners Enyimba have returned the trophy,” the post concluded.

However, NPFL followers and stakeholders have questioned the rational behind the return of the trophy won two years ago.

The 2020/2021 penultimate league matches will hold this Sunday across cities with some others scheduled for Monday, August the second.

Akwa United will need a draw against MFM FC in Uyo to be crowned champions of the season.

The Akwa Ibom based side top the league standings with 68 points from 36 matches, 6 points above second and 3rd placed teams, Nasarawa United and Enyimba International FC.
