Chairman of Nigeria Professional Football League side, Lobi Stars, Mike Idoko has refuted reports that he has joined the 17 NPFL club owners to support the cancellation of the 2019/2020 season and use of Point Per Game, PPPG to decide the continental representatives, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.

In a release Friday signed by the club’s image maker, Austin Tyowua, Mr Idoko said he can only accept PPG on condition that there is equal number of games played by all teams.

Adding that his stand that the club owners revert back to the week no club recorded any outstanding game as well as the fact that other clubs should sacrifice week 21-25 and allow the table to be calculated on week 20, still persists

The statement reads “Contrary to media reports making the rounds from the aftermath of the  football stakeholders virtual meeting Wednesday 24th June, 2020 to adopt a suitable mechanism to end the NPFL 2019/2020 that I voted for PPG, I hereby unequivocally state that, I had persistently opposed the use of PPG and everybody is aware.

“The Executive Vice Chairman of Lobi Stars Mr Mike Idoko was rumoured to have voted in favuor of PPG as a means to calculate the league standing bringing the total number of clubs in affirmation to 18 in a social media post by Usman Bature.

“I said it earlier on Channels TV that, I can only accept PPG on condition that there is equal number of games played by all teams. I repeated same during the virtual meeting.

“My suggested options to arrive at equal number of games were:

1. Revert back to the week no club recorded any outstanding game.

2. All other clubs should sacrifice week 21-25 and allow the table to be calculated on week 20 as the club with the highest number of outstanding games played 20 games.

“Lobi Stars have not and never been against league cancellation or out to disrupt the process to reaching an amicable end but are only seeking utmost fairness.

“I call on Lobi Stars fans, the government of Benue State, Board and management of Lobi Stars to disregard the unfounded rumour that I voted for PPG mechanism as a means to ending the league.”
