Nasarawa United Player, Chineme Martins, Slumps, Dies In Field

Nigeria football Sunday witnessed another sad moment as Nasarawa United player, Chineme Martins slumped and died during the matchday 23 of the NPFL encounter with Katsina United, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report authoritatively
The incident occurred after he collided with Katsina United player in the centre of the field and landed awkwardly during the first half.
The medical personnel rushed to the field but effort to revive him was unsuccessful.
The situation was made worse when the ambulance stationed in the field failed to start and was pushed into the field.
A Nigeria police van was brough in but immediately the governor’s Press Crew bus was brought in to rush him to the hospital.
But it was understood that he died right there in the field.
Although Nasarawa United won the match 3-0, the victory was overshadowed by Martins death as the players, coaches and officials of the club cried profusely after the final whistle.
When our correspondent approached Coach Bala Nikiyu for his comment, he declined, with tears cascading his cheeks and walked into the dressing room.
Nasarawa United management is yet to issue official statement on the sad incidence at the time of this story
The last time this ugly incident happened was in 1992 when former Super Eagles player, Samuel Okwarakji slumped and died during a World Cup qualifier against Angola in Lagos.
