National Principal’s Cup: Minister To Host FCT Contingents Before Final
The minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Mohammed Musa Bello will host the FCT contingent who dominated the table at the North-Central playoff of the 2021 National Principal’s Cup held in Jos, Plateau State capital.
The FCT Contingent qualified for the final in 13 events including football
The leader of the delegates, Mr Hashimu Adamu, a Deputy Director and Head of Sports, FCT Education Board who was elated by the feat achieved by the athletes announced that plans are underway to make the FCT minister, Mohammed Bello to host the contingents before the national final this weekend.
Mr Adamu who declared that the FCT authorities are proud of the athletes enumerated the events FCT qualified for to include football, 4×400m mixed relay, 200m boys and long jump, high jump girls among others.
“We won many medals in events. We are proud of our athletes. The most important medal everybody looks for in any competition is football and we got it.
“We also got medals in relays. We have 4×400m mixed relay, we also qualified in the 4×100m.
“We got 200m boys, long jump boys and high jump girls too. We also qualified in the discus both boys and girls
“We will go back, we will report to our various directors that are in charge. They will make arrangement for a warm reception before the national final. It will be an encouragement to the athletes.
“We are going to seek for the support of the FCT council and the ministry. It is no longer an issue of the sports department we are going to involve the Permanent Secretary and the minister to be aware of our success story. We will also inform them of the events we are going to feature in at the national final. We will crave for financial and moral support.” he said.
He added that the athletes will go into serious training to effect remedies where necessary as they prepare for the national final which will hold in Abuja.
“The athletes who have qualified will go into serious training to perfect our weak areas. We have directors of sports here and coaches who will coordinate the few days training. We have directors from the federal ministries of youth and sports and education who will push forward on this. And by the time we get back, the technical people will take over.”
Mr Adamu who led other delegates, Mr Gama Yakubu, a Deputy Director, FCT Secondary Education Board, Co-curricular (Athletics Coach) and Mr Alan Josiah FCT UBE who was in charge of medicals as well as Mrs Esther Whoba a representative from the FCT Sports Department led the contingents back safely to Abuja on Monday
He expressed optimism that the FCT will emerge victorious in all the events they have qualified for.
“I assure you of a medal in football, relay and throws. We are going to make our minister and the entire FCT proud.”
The final of the 2021 National Principal’s Cup will hold in Abuja, the Federal Capital from 27 March to 31st 2021.
The final will be among the six states that emerged champions at the zonal levels.
