National Sports Festival: Israel Ogbodo Laments Poor Support For Enugu Athletes
A member of Enugu’s contingent at the ongoing National Sports Festival, Israel Ogbodo, has frowned at the poor level of support from the State Government.
Ogbodo who knocked out his opponent from Team Ebonyi, Ernest Smart, emphatically in a 56KG Boxing contest shared his unhappiness with the media immediately after the bout.
“I am not happy with the State Government with the way they are treating us. There is not enough support both morally and financially coming from the State, but that will not stop me from fighting to achieve my dreams. ”
He continued, “As it stands, am fighting for my dreams to come through so I can leave them (Enugu State) to a better place, because I know my destiny is not to stay with them since they do not care about my career”.
When this reporter asked him about his intentions for the sole gold medal in his category, the young pugilist expressed his desire to still win laurels for his state despite Enugu’s poor efforts at sports development compared to other states in the South East.
Enugu State prides itself as the “coal city” state, but its neglect for other sports apart from football has continued to prevent it from discovering and nurturing future athletes.
