NFF in a congratulatory letter sent to the club on Tuesday signed by the Secretary General, Dr Mohammed Sanusi said the federation was delighted of the Promise Keepers’ over-all performance at the end of the 2020/2021 NPFL season which they emerged champion.

“The Nigeria Football Federation is delighted of your over-all performance at the end of the 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season which your Team emerged champion.

“The Nigeria Football Federation is aware of the enormous task of completing a 38-week league Matches which required huge financial burden, planning and excessive energy sapping which you were able to over-come.

“In addition of Management commitment and dedication, we must commend the sponsor of the Team and the resilience of the Players whose contributions were quite visible to the success which you are enjoying presently,” part of the letter read.

The NFF also confirmed that the new champions would be representing the country at the CAF Champions League adding that with committed staff, sponsor and good players, they can become Africa’s Champions.

“While also celebrating this achievement, we are pleased to inform you that your Club, Akwa Utd FC will be representing Nigeria at the CAF Champions League which is the most prestigious African Football Club competition and indeed the desire of every Club in Africa to participate.

“We are optimistic that with the array of Players and with the backing of the sponsor as well as careful execution of planning, Akwa Utd FC can become the Champion of Africa which will be an added FEATHTER to Akwa Ibom State and to Nigeria in particular.

“Once more, I congratulate you and your Team on this achievement and wishing you more success ahead of your 2021/2022 CAF Champions League,” the letter concluded

Akwa United, it could be noted, on Sunday won the NPFL title for the first time in their 25 years history.

The team defeated MFM FC in the matchday 37 to open up an unassailable 6 points gap ahead of their title challengers, Kano Pillars and Nasarawa United.

The 2020/2021 NPFL season will end on Thursday, August 5 with matchday 38 scheduled to hold across 10 centres.
